Items You'll Need For Your First Night In Your New Home

When moving long distances, chances are you may arrive before your belongings do. If this is the case, you'll need some items at your new home to get you by until the movers arrive with all of your belongings. Don't go overboard and rent a trailer to haul a bunch of furniture and boxes yourself, you only need a few items and they should fit in the trunk of your car. See below for a list of items you'll need.

Clothing

Be sure to bring extra clothing, at least a weeks worth so you have something to wear in the event the truck is delayed. Bring an extra pair of shoes for you and everyone in the family as well. Pack coats if you are moving to an area with a cooler climate, or summer clothing if moving to a warmer climate. Pay attention to the weather where you are moving.

Electronics And Chargers

Be sure to remember any essential electronics you may need for work or for entertainment, and remember to bring chargers and extra batteries as well. If you have a small television or a laptop bring one with you to watch television or movies on for a few days. Also bring a nightlight with you if you have smaller children or flashlights to get you through the night at your new home. Small kids may have a rougher time sleeping at a new home.

Blow Up Mattress

Bring a blow up mattress or two for everyone to sleep on in the meantime before the furniture arrives, so you aren't sleeping on a hard floor. Also bring some blankets and pillows with you as well. If little ones need a special stuffed animal to snuggle with, remember to pack this too.

Toiletries And Other Essentials

Toiletries should be packed to get you by for a few days - shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, hairbrush/comb, blow dryer, makeup, toothbrush/toothpaste, toilet paper and other bathroom essentials should be brought with you. Don't forget to bring a handful of towels with you too.

Plates And Utensils

Bring some plates and utensils with you, as well as garbage bags, aluminum foil and plastic bags. Even if you eat out for most of your meals you can at least have some essentials to prepare a few meals or eat at home.

Sure you can go to the local big box store or grocery store for some of these items, but if you don't want to have to buy all of these things that you already have, bring them with you and save a few bucks. Get by in your new home with some of your own things to make your new home just a little homier. Contact a moving company, like Bekins Van Lines Inc, for more help.
